End of the Year Activities

End-of-Year (EOY) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 

1. Why is my student not allowed to participate in the 8th-grade end-of-year activities (Wild Water)?" 
Answer: To be eligible, students were required to meet the following criteria: 
-Complete a minimum of 20 hours on I-Ready: 10 hours in Reading and 10 hours in Math. 
-Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA 

Unfortunately, students who did not meet these requirements are not eligible to participate in the Wild Water end-of-year activity. Students and families were notified multiple times, including through Parent Square, regarding the participation requirements for the 8th-grade end-of-year activities. 

2. Can I take my student to Wild Water Adventures on the day of the event?" 
Answer: It is a regular school day, and students are still expected to attend school. In addition, Wild Water will be closed to the public that day.  

3. Does my student have to purchase their own ticket to Wild Water? 
Answer: No, Tickets will be provided by the school for all eligible students as well as snacks, drinks and lunch. 

4. What are the requirements to participate in 7th-grade EOY activities? 
Answer: Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, successfully complete their Exit Project, and log a minimum of 20 hours on I-Ready--10hours in English/10hours in Math. If students earned a 3.0 GPA, they automatically qualify. 

Promotion Ceremony 

1. What are the requirements to participate in the Promotion Ceremony? 
Answer: Students must complete the Exit Project, log 20 hours on I-Ready—10 hours in English/10hours in Math and maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA. If students have a 3.0 GPA, they automatically qualify.  

2. If my student does not attend the promotion ceremony for whatever reason, will they still be promoted to high school? 
Answer: Yes, even if your child does not participate in the promotion ceremony celebration, the promotion to high school is based on academics. Your son/daughter will continue onto High School. 

3. When and how will tickets for the promotion ceremony be distributed? 
Answer: Two (2) Tickets will be given to students with ceremony rules and regulations on June 9th  

4. What is the location and time of the Promotion Ceremony? 
Answer: Thursday, June 11th, 9:00 am Gaston Middle School GYM –1100 E. Church Ave., Fresno, CA. 93706 

5. Can I watch the ceremony online:
Gaston MS will be live streaming the Promotion Ceremony. Ceremony can be watched at the following link: https://www.edisonregion.com/ Streaming will begin at 9:00 am.

Grades & GPA 

1. Can my student still get credit for completing assignments after final grades have been submitted? 
Answer: Yes, at the discretion of the teacher, Final date of Quarter 4 is June 11th  

2. My student has a GPA over 3.0. Are they still required to complete outstanding incomplete assignments? 
Answer: Yes, the end of year eligibility deadline for GPA was simply to participate in the EOY Celebrations; it is not a representation of their final grades.  

3. Can my student turn in make-up work or log extra I-Ready hours to bring up their grades right now? 
Answer: Certain teachers are still accepting make-up work. Please check with teacher. 

4. When were final grades officially finalized and locked? 
Answer: Thursday, June 11th the last day of school. 

5. Who should I contact if I have questions about my student's recent grades? 
Answer: Teacher, School Counselor or you may use the ATLAS Parent Portal to view grades. 

Notices & Communication 

  1. Where can I find all the official school notices and updates regarding my child? 
    Answer: You can find most information on Parent Square or Atlas. For further questions please contact the Gaston office at 559-457-3400 
     

  2. Why wasn't I notified about my student's eligibility status before now? 
    Answer: Beginning in April, every student was given a notification every two weeks regarding their status. 

    -Exit Project was Due May 4th -20 hours I-Ready was Due May 22nd  
    -GPA Deadline May 22nd  
    -Eligibility notice for Promotion will be sent home with student May 29th. Please have that conversation with your child. 

Newly Enrolled Students 

  1. My student just recently started attending Gaston Middle School. Are they still eligible to participate in end-of-year events? 
    Answer: Final determination for eligibility will be based on grades from previous school and at the discretion of the school administration. If there is a concern regarding this, please contact their School Counselor.

1. ¿Por qué mi estudiante no puede participar en las actividades de fin de año de 8.º grado (Wild Water)?
Respuesta: Para ser elegible, los estudiantes debían cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:

Los estudiantes y las familias fueron notificados en múltiples ocasiones, incluyendo mensajes a través de ParentSquare, sobre los requisitos de participación para las actividades de fin de año de 8 º.

2. ¿Puedo llevar a mi estudiante a Wild Water Adventures el día del evento?
Respuesta: No. Ese día sigue siendo un día regular de clases y se espera que los estudiantes asistan a la escuela. Además, Wild Water estará cerrado al público ese día.

3. ¿Mi estudiante tiene que comprar su propio boleto para Wild Water?
Respuesta: No. La escuela proporcionará los boletos para todos los estudiantes elegibles, así como refrigerios, bebidas y almuerzo.

Ceremonia de Promoción

1. ¿Cuáles son los requisitos para participar en la Ceremonia de Promoción?
Respuesta: Los estudiantes deben:

  • Completar el Proyecto de Salida (Exit Project).
  • Registrar 20 horas en I-Ready:
    • 10 horas en Inglés/Lectura
    • 10 horas en Matemáticas
  • Mantener un prmedio de 2.0 o superior.

Los estudiantes con un promedio de 3.0 o superior califican automáticamente.

2. Si mi estudiante no asiste a la ceremonia de promoción por cualquier motivo, ¿aún será promovido a la preparatoria?
Respuesta: Sí. Aunque su hijo(a) no participe en la ceremonia de promoción, la promoción a la preparatoria se basa en los requisitos académicos. Su estudiante continuará a la escuela preparatoria.

3. ¿Cuándo y cómo se distribuirán los boletos para la ceremonia de promoción?
Respuesta: Se entregarán dos (2) boletos a los estudiantes junto con las reglas y regulaciones de la ceremonia el 9 de junio.

4. ¿Cuál es la fecha, hora y lugar de la Ceremonia de Promoción?
Respuesta:

Calificaciones y GPA

1. ¿Puede mi estudiante recibir crédito por completar tareas después de que se hayan entregado las calificaciones finales?
Respuesta: Sí, a discreción del maestro(a). La fecha final del cuarto trimestre es el 11 de junio.

2. Mi estudiante tiene un GPA superior a 3.0. ¿Aún tiene que completar tareas pendientes o incompletas?
Respuesta: Sí. La fecha límite de elegibilidad para las actividades de fin de año se utilizó únicamente para determinar la participación en las celebraciones de fin de año y no representa las calificaciones finales del estudiante.

3. ¿Puede mi estudiante entregar trabajos atrasados o completar horas adicionales de I-Ready para mejorar sus calificaciones?
Respuesta: Algunos maestros todavía están aceptando trabajos de recuperación. Por favor, comuníquese directamente con el maestro(a) de su estudiante.

4. ¿Cuándo se finalizarán y cerrarán oficialmente las calificaciones?
Respuesta: El jueves 11 de junio es el último día de clases.

5. ¿Con quién debo comunicarme si tengo preguntas sobre las calificaciones recientes de mi estudiante?
Respuesta: Puede comunicarse con el maestro(a), el consejero(a) escolar o consultar el Portal para Padres para revisar las calificaciones.

Avisos y Comunicación

¿Dónde puedo encontrar los avisos y actualizaciones oficiales relacionados con mi estudiante?
Respuesta: La mayor parte de la información se publica a través de ParentSquare o Atlas.

¿Por qué no fui notificado(a) antes sobre el estado de elegibilidad de mi estudiante?
Respuesta: Desde abril, los estudiantes recibieron avisos sobre su estado de elegibilidad cada dos semanas.

Fechas importantes:

  • Proyecto de Salida (Exit Project): Fecha límite 4 de mayo
  • 20 horas de I-Ready: Fecha límite 22 de mayo
  • Fecha límite del GPA: 22 de mayo
  • Aviso de elegibilidad para la promoción: enviado a casa con los estudiantes el 29 de mayo

Por favor, converse con su estudiante sobre estos requisitos y avisos.

Estudiantes Recién Inscritos

Mi estudiante comenzó a asistir recientemente a Gaston Middle School. ¿Aún es elegible para participar en los eventos de fin de año?
Respuesta: La determinación final de elegibilidad se basará en las calificaciones de la escuela anterior y quedará a discreción de la administración escolar.
